Error description

• Intermittent problem in Liberty - following message is
  issued:
  
  J2CA0079E: Method getManagedConnection has detected an
  internal illegal state and is throwing an
  IllegalStateException. The exception is:
  java.lang.IllegalStateException: getManagedConnection:
  illegal
  state exception. State = STATE_INACTIVE MCW = 515b4506

  When purging pool contents we used a lock on the data structure
  used to generating a list of managed connections to purge.
  This lock was released before we started purging connections.
  During the purge, we call getManagedConnection() which has a
  possibility of throwing an IllegalStateException if the state of
  the connection had changed after releasing the lock.
  

Problem conclusion

• This problem was fixed by keeping the lock until we finish
  purging all the connections marked to be purged.
  This problem is fixed by Open Liberty issue - OLGH15026
