Error description
If the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus user interface (UI) is not working, command logcollect needs to be used to collect log bundle. When running the following command on the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus appliance console to generate log bundle, it fails with 401 error: [serveradmin@SPP-host scripts]$ sudo /opt/ECX/tools/logcollect/logcollect A log file for this run is created at: /opt/ECX/tools/logcollect/logs/logcollect_log_2020 1015T135305.txt java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response code: 401 for URL: http://localhost:8082/api/progress? The 401 error occurs because the log collector is trying to access IBM Spectrum Protect Plus endpoints without a session ID. When running in command line standalone mode, no such session ID exists. The virgo log shows: [date+timestamp] WARN http-nio-8082-exec-4 com.syncsort.dp.xsb.api.commons.servletfilter.AuditFilter Session ID is missing, request: uri (/api/progress?), method (GET) [date+timestamp] WARN http-nio-8082-exec-3 com.syncsort.dp.xsb.api.commons.servletfilter.AuditFilter Session ID is missing, request: uri (/api/site?), method (GET) The generated log file, like logcollect_log_20201015T135305.txt, does not have useful content and can be safely removed. Versions affected: 10.1.6.*

Problem conclusion
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus has fixed the command line interface (CLI) log collection tool. Previously, the CLI log collection tool did not prompt the user for a username and password which caused the log collection process to fail with an HTTP 401 Unauthorized error. With the latest fix, the CLI now prompts the user for a username and password and these credentials are used for authenticating with the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus backend services.
