Job Classification and Job Throttling for WebSphere Liberty Batch

White Papers

Abstract

This Techdoc includes two documents: the first provides a review of how to assign a "job class" to a submitted batch job in the WebSphere Liberty Batch environment. With a job class assigned, you may then determine which server the batch job runs in. This document illustrates z/OS, but this technique applies to all operating systems supported by WebSphere Liberty Batch. The second document provides a review of how to use the capabilities of the JMS activationSpec to "throttle" the number of jobs a server takes in.The first document is divided into "theory" and "practice." In the front portion of the document a discussion is provided that explains how the multiple-JVM submission mechanism is designed and operates. In the back portion of the document we illustrate a real-life setup on z/OS where a jobClass= parameter was used to dispatch the job to a server with a high-priority velocity goal. The second document is relatively short and focuses on the configuration elements to achieve the throttling of jobs.
