Abstract
All modern microprocessor architecture is designed with the understanding there is a codependency between a processor's design and the code it expects to execute. Applications which are designed without respect to processor design may see performance issues as the application is moved across different processor. This article discusses a specific coding situation which when executed on a IBM System z processor or an eServer zSeries processor may cause performance shortfalls. The article describes the programming practice which has caused performance shortfalls and describes an approach for identifying and managing applications which may be at risk.
