Abstract

Run the IBM Spectrum Protect™ Snapshot Prerequisite Checker in an AIX® or Linux environment for Oracle, Oracle for SAP®, or DB2®. With the Prerequisite Checker, you can check compatibility of your operating system and the available software to be used by IBM Spectrum Protect™ Snapshot in the supported environments.

Scope of the IBM Spectrum Protect™ Snapshot Prerequisite Checker
The IBM Spectrum Protect™ Snapshot Prerequisite Checker Version 8.1.11 automates checks for the operating system, database instance, and volume group layout on Linux and AIX platforms.


Requirements for running the IBM Spectrum Protect™ Snapshot Prerequisite Checker
The following AIX and Linux x86 operating systems are supported:

Operating system AIX 7.1, and later 7.1.x levels

Operating system Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11, and later 11.x levels
Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 12 - 12SP5
Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 15 (beginning with V8.1.6.1)
Operating system Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.1 up to 6.10
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.0, RHEL 7.4 up to 7.9
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.0 up to 8.2 (beginning with V 8.1.11)

The Prerequisite Checker does not change the database or the system; it retrieves information from the operating system and database in preparation for installing IBM Spectrum Protect™ Snapshot in an AIX or Linux environment.
 

Known Limitation for IBM Spectrum Protect™ Snapshot Prerequisite Checker
Non-default storage groups are not included in any checks for DB2.
Specifically, the volume group layout and file system type checks are incomplete, and their results cannot be relied upon if a DB2 database has non-default storage groups.
