APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
The MVS STOP command (using mod_zos_cmds) causes the server to immediately stop and any requests in progress are terminated, and no further requests are served. This need to be enhanced to allow the server to do a graceful stop, so that the server monitors threads handling requests. Once all the threads have finalized and exited or the timeout specified by the GracefulShutdownTimeout has been reached, the server will shut down.
Local fix
Stop the server using this command: S server_name,ACTION='graceful-stop'
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM HTTP Server (powered by * * Apache) on z/OS. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The MVS STOP command causes the server * * to immediately stop and any requests * * in progress are terminated. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Issuing an MVS STOP command causes the server to abruptly stop instead of gracefully shutting down. The option 'UseGracefulStop' was added to ZosConsoleOptions to enable a graceful shutdown when a STOP command is received.
Problem conclusion
IBM HTTP Server (powered by Apache) on z/OS now supports graceful shutdown. This behavior can be enabled by adding the following directive to the server's configuration file in global scope: ZosConsoleOptions UseGracefulStop This fix is targeted for IBM HTTP Server fix packs: - 7.0.0.43 - 8.0.0.13 - 8.5.5.11 - 9.0.0.2
