IBM Cloud Pak System - IBM Spectrum Scale Virtual System Instance fails deployment with GPFSServer-Main role in ERROR state

Troubleshooting


Problem

When deploying a IBM Spectrum Scale Virtual System Pattern that uses IBM Spectrum Scale Pattern Type v1.2.15.0, it fails with ERROR status

Symptom

1. The Virtual System Instance status is ERROR
2. Under the History section, the following error message is recorded:
     Set deployment status as ERROR because one or more roles are in ERROR status
3. When expanding the Middleware Perspective section, the GPFSServer-Main middleware role is found to be in an error state.                               
 
                                                             

Cause

GPFS GUI rpm is introduced in version 5.0.3.0 and is installed at deployment time using yum command.
yum -y install gpfs.gui-5.0.3-0.noarch.rpm
The trace log shows the deployment fails because the GUI rpm gpfs.gui-5.0.3-0.noarch.rpm cannot be installed with yum command since client virtual machine (VM) is not registered to a Red Hat Satellite Server
In the GPFSServer-Main middleware role's trace.log the following message is recorded:
This system is not registered with an entitlement server. You can use subscription-manager to register.

Resolving The Problem

Redeploy the IBM Spectrum Scale Virtual System Pattern to a Cloud Group that has a Red Hat Satellite Six Shared Service already deployed 
Note: If you do not currently have a Red Hat Satellite Server environment setup on your IBM Cloud Pak System refer to the latest documentation for instructions on how to set up a Red Hat Satellite Server.  Complete the setup steps before attempting to redeploy the IBM Spectrum Scale Virtual System Pattern
