Enhancements to the VPN and VPN on Demand settings in bulk edit of iOS policies

Abstract

MaaS360 adds support to manage existing VPN and VPN on Demand profile configurations in the iOS policies that are chosen for bulk edit. These profiles are managed based on VPN host name and VPN on Demand Rule Dictionary Name.

Depending on whether VPN, VPN on Demand profiles are same or different in the iOS policies that are chosen for bulk edit, following actions are undertaken.
VPN Type in iOS policies for bulk edit Host Name of the VPN Server Action
Same Same VPN profile configuration is superimposed in these policies with the original iOS policy.

A new copy of the VPN profile is created in these iOS policies that are selected for bulk edit.
VPN on Demand-Rule Dictionary Name in iOS policies for bulk edit Action
Same VPN on Demand profile configuration is superimposed in these policies with the original iOS policy.
Different A new copy of the VPN on Demand profile is created in these iOS policies that are selected for bulk edit.
Note: This bulk edit action for iOS policies is applicable only on the iOS policies that are involved in the bulk edit. The iOS policies that are not part of the bulk edit of policies remain unaffected. 

Bulk edit of iOS policy- VPN profile settings impacts

Following scenarios can be encountered in the VPN profile while performing bulk edit in the iOS policies

Scenario 1: The VPN type and Host Name of the VPN Server names are same in the iOS policies that are selected for bulk edit.

Result: The VPN profile configuration in these policies is superimposed with the VPN profile configuration that exists in the original iOS policy.

Scenario 2: The VPN type is same but Host Name of the VPN Server is different in the iOS policies that are selected for bulk edit.

Result: A new copy of the VPN profile is created in these iOS policies that are selected for bulk edit.

  • The VPN profile setting changes impact only on the policies that are included in the bulk edit action of policies.  There is no impact on policies that are not included in bulk edit action.
  • The changes to the VPN profile during bulk edit is supported on all VPN types that are available in the iOS policy setting.
