Troubleshooting

Problem

User runs an upgraded c10 report to HTML in the new Cognos Analytics 11 environment.  The report appears (inside the web browser window) but it is very small. It occupies only a fraction of the space.

Problem only affects some users.

Symptom

Example:

Wee report in window

Cause

Environment upgraded from a Cognos 10 environment that was using a custom style which was not carried over to /webcontent/skins folder in the new Cognos 11 environment but is still set in the classic view "My Preferences" area.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve this issue you will need to change the style set for the classic mode areas of Cognos. The steps are as follows:

  • Log into your environment and go into the Cognos Administration Console.
  • In the top right corner, click the icon of the figure and select the  "My Preferences" link.
  • In the resulting box, on the general tab, look for the "Style" drop down.
  • Take note of what the style is set to and click the drop-down menu and select one of the other default styles such as Modern or Business.
  • Click ok and then refresh the page to ensure the new style is set.

Alternately, if all users have their style set to this custom style and you want to correct the issue for more than one user at a time you may use the following method:

  • In the Cognos Administration Console click on the "configuration" tab, and click the "styles" link in the left hand column.
  • Remove the errant style by clicking the drop down menu beside the style name and selecting "delete".
  • Once the style is remove it should no longer be available for selection and default to the next available style.
