APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The HybridPersistenceActivator, which enables integrating a
    JPA
    persistence provider implementation with Aries OSGi
    applications, uses ClassLoader for the WeakHashMap key,
    which
    prevents its garbage collection.

Local fix

  • if not needed, do not enable the JPA feature

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: JPA Persistence Activator retains *
    *                      ClassLoader references, potentially     *
    * leading to OutOfMemory condition *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The HybridPersistenceActivator, which enables integrating a JPA
    persistence provider implementation with Aries OSGi
    applications, uses ClassLoader for the WeakHashMap key, which
    prevents its garbage collection.

Problem conclusion

  • The HybridPersistenceActivator has been changed to use
    ModuleMetaData instead of ClassLoader for the key. When an
    application is stopped, all non-weak references to the
    ModuleMetaData will count down to zero, ensuring that it will be
    Garbage Collected.
