IBM Support

Use an external editor to edit IBM Rational Rhapsody generated code

Question & Answer

Question

How to use an external editor to edit Rational Rhapsody generated code?

Cause

User Preference to change the editor of their choice or company standards

Answer

To use an external/preferred text editor:

  1. Right click on the class
  2. Select: Features --> Properties
  3. General::Model::ClassCodeEditor set to Command line
  4. General::Model::EditorCommandLine set to the executable path of external editor for example: c:/windows/notepad.exe

If this is to be set for all projects by default then edit the above properties mentioned in the Factory.prp

  • Property ClassCodeEditor Enum "Internal, Associate, CommandLine" "CommandLine"
  • Property EditorCommandLine File "C:/notepad.exe"

You can as well edit the property in the prp files for these properties so that it is applicable across projects.
However if you wish to have this project specific then follow the steps mentioned above.
