IBM Support

Guardium Windows S-TAP with DB2: no local sessions are captured.

Troubleshooting

Problem

You are monitoring DB2 traffic with Guardium Windows S-TAP and you don't see any local session traffic.
You have increased the CORRELATION_TIMEOUT to 300 and restarted the S-TAP.

Cause

The STAP services for DB2 are either not installed or running.

Environment

v10, v11 S-TAPs.

Diagnosing The Problem

In the STAP installation log "IBM Windows S-TAP*.ctl", look for lines similar to the following:
Services: Detected DB2 on this system
...
`I <timestamp> Options: Command line: -UNATTENDED ... DB2_TAP_INSTALLED=1

Resolving The Problem

These services must be running:
IBM Security Guardium DB2 TAP Service (Db2TAPSvc)
IBM Security Guardium DB2 Proxy Helper (Db2ProxySvc)

The log files in the <STAPInstallDir>/Guardium/bin are:
Db2TAPService.ctl
Db2TAPDllx64.ctl
In the STAP configuration file guard_tap.ini, check the value of DB2_TAP_INSTALLED.  When the STAP is installed, this will be set to 1 by default if DB2 is detected as installed.

If the STAP is installed before DB2 is installed, DB2_TAP_INSTALLED will be set to 0.
If the STAP is installed after DB2, then you need to set it to 1 when doing the installation.
From GIM, use the optional parameter: WINSTAP_DB2_TAP_INSTALLED=1.
From the command line, add "DB2_TAP_INSTALLED=1" after the "TAPHOST".
