APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • This new functionality exploits Flashcopy's preserve mirror
capability to avoid potential PPRC suspend conditions.
Flashcopy operations where the source and target devices are
both PPRC primaries often result in the target device hitting a
PPRC suspend condition while the data transfers over to the PPRC
secondary. Support is also added to allow Flashcopy to Global
    Mirror primary devices.

Local fix

  • Before this support, customers would have to exploit Flashcopy
commands via z/OS or ICKDSF to avoid the PPRC suspend
    conditions.

    ****************************************************************
z/VM's Flashcopy commands do not currently exploit the
hardware's ability to preserve the mirroring state of the target
device while the Flashcopy operation completes. Flashcopy
to Global Mirror primary devices is also not supported.

Comments

  • Support is being added to allow z/VM's FLASHCOPY ESTABLISH and
FLASHCOPY vdev commands to include Preserve Mirror capability.
This allows a Flashcopy between two PPRC/Metro Mirror primary
devices to complete without affecting the PPRC state of the
    target devices.

Flashcopy was also updated to support using Global Mirror
devices as the target of a Flashcopy relationship.
