Abstract
The use of product entitlement cards is being phased out and certain subscription activation codes for Red Hat and SUSE products can now be downloaded from the Entitled Systems Support (ESS) website.
Content
If you order a system that has a preinstalled Linux Operating system from IBM, a product entitlement card with an activation code that is printed on it is included with your order. This card is different from the hardware shipment and comes from IBM Software Manufacturing. You must register the Linux offering that is purchased at the website of the corresponding Linux distribution by entering the activation code that is provided on the card. After you register your Linux offering, you can download the required code electronically and obtain the upgrades that are available for the product purchased. The use of product entitlement cards is being phased out and you can download certain activation codes from the ESS website. Additionally, activation codes for any new orders are published on the ESS website as part of the shipping process and all historic orders that are shipped on or after 1 January 2020 are published retroactively.
