Troubleshooting
Problem
After the Planning Analytics Administration Agent (PAAA) has been updated with a newer version, the "Databases" tab of the Planning Analytics Workspace Administration page displays
"Agent unreachable" error at the top
and
"Cannot display resource information" error for each TM1 server.
The messages.log (in C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\paa_agent\wlp\usr\servers\kate-agent\logs) contains errors of that type:
0000003c com.ibm.pa.kate.agent.service.PAKateAgentService E Exception java.lang.NullPointerException
Resolving The Problem
Verify the version of PAAA is what it is supposed to be, by checking in this file: \ibm\cognos\tm1_64\paa_agent\wlp\usr\servers\kate-agent\version.txt
If any doubt, then download the paa-agent-pkg-2.0.xx.xxxx.zip file again from the "Downloads" link of the "Databases" tab of the PAAA page, unzip it into any temporary install folder, open a Windows command-line dyalog (cmd.exe) and run "UpdatePAAAgent.bat <Path_to_the_'\tm1_64'_root_folder>"
After this, stop the "IBM Planning Analytics Administration Agent" service and delete the kate-agent cache, by removing all files and subfolders that can be found in these directories (if they exist):
\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\paa_agent\wlp\usr\servers\kate-agent\workarea
\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\paa_agent\wlp\usr\servers\.log
\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\paa_agent\wlp\usr\servers\.classcache
Finally, restart the service.
\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\paa_agent\wlp\usr\servers\kate-agent\workarea
\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\paa_agent\wlp\usr\servers\.log
\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\paa_agent\wlp\usr\servers\.classcache
Finally, restart the service.
