Application Log Files Not Rolling Over as Expected (example, TM1Server.log)

Troubleshooting

Problem

TM1Server.log file is not rolling over when the file reaches the maximum file size as defined in the tm1s-log.properties file.
NOTE: This can impact more than just the TM1Server.log file, and could apply to any application log file.

Resolving The Problem

-Use a tool such as Process Explorer to search for open handles on the filename in question

-Using Computer Management > System Tools > Shared Folders > Open Files, may also help you identify the file (and who has it opened/locked)

-In this specific case, the problem/handle is opened by a tool such as Notepad++ or GLOGG, running in Monitor/Tail mode
-To ensure that no file locks are present, so that the file can be rolled over, you must avoid such tooling/options
-Opening/viewing the file in Read Only mode (without Monitor/Tail) will not cause this problem to occur
