Error description
Backup/Archive client on Linux platform can leave dsmcad process(es) running after "rpm -e" is issued to remove the BA client package. For example, in the following scenario: 1) start a dsmcad process using either "service dsmcad start" or "systemctl start dsmcad" on Linux: # service dsmcad start 2) make sure the dsmcad service is up and running: # ps -ef | grep dsm root 63174 1 3 22:40 ? 00:00:00 /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsmcad 3) uninstall the BA client: # rpm -e TIVsm-BA-8.1.9-0 4) make sure the dsmcad service is stopped: # ps -ef | grep dsm root 63174 1 3 22:40 ? 00:00:00 /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsmcad Expected result: - the dsmcad service is stopped Actual result: - the dsmcad service is still up & running: # service dsmcad status Checking dsmcad: running # ps -ef | grep dsm root 63174 1 3 22:40 ? 00:00:00 /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsmcad This issue has been seen after backup/archive client was upgraded by automatic client deployment method. Local fix
Stop and restart dsmcad, so that dsmcad runs as new version, if client is upgraded afterwards.

Problem conclusion
Spectrum Protect client acceptor daemon was not stopped during Spectrum Protect client uninstall. Pre-uninstall script for the affected platforms was fixed to stop the service during the uninstall process.
