APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The V8.1.9.1 IBM Spectrum Protect backup-brchive client GUI
    does not start on Apple macOS platform.
    If the backup-brchive
    client is started via the IBM Spectrum Protect Tools for
    Administrators then the following message might be seen
    :
    "LogMsg: Unable to open log file dsmwebcl.log for output! Can
    not start dsmagent!"
    This error is seen because the
    dsmwebcl.log is created with chmod "644" and owner is set to
    "root" which happens when starting the Java GUI via the ISP
    Tools for Administrators.
    
    If the GUI is started with a
    regular user using the dsmj executable then the dsmwebcl.log
    owner will be that regular user.

Local fix

  • As a workaround run the following command :
    
    sudo chmod 660
    /Library/Logs/tivoli/tsm/dsmwebcl.log
    
    If the file does not
    exist you could run the following commands using the
    administrative user :
    touch
    /Library/Logs/tivoli/tsm/dsmwebcl.log
    chmod 660
    /Library/Logs/tivoli/tsm/dsmwebcl.log
