How do the Rhapsody Gateway intermediate files work with synchronizing data with Rhapsody and DOORS?

You want to know how when these files are created, updated and how to extract data
Answer
Data from external applications like Rhapsody, DOORS, Word, PDF are extracted by a Gateway internal engine into an XML file. This XML file (or intermediate file) is read by a parser, based on Gateway type of analysis.
Data, which is not contained in the intermediate file cannot be imported directly to Gateway.
(1) intermediate file used by DOORS:
The intermediate file is created when data from DOORS are imported to Gateway.
When you change only the DOORS View or some definitions, and the DOORS object itself is not modified, then the intermediate file is not updated.
Also, when modifying the type of analysis in Gateway, the intermediate file is not updated, as the timestamp of the external tools does not change.
To be on the safe side and always import the latest data, you can select Force Reload in Gateway.
(2) intermediate file used by Rhapsody:
You can enable or disable the intermediate file in Gateway project configuration.
When you deselect (default) this option, the intermediate file is created in a temp folder and it is deleted automatically when closing Gateway.
As the intermediate file is always re-created, it always contains the latest Rhapsody data.
When selected in order to create a permanent intermediate file, you find it in the "intermediate" folder (same location as DOORS intermediate file). That intermediate file is never updated automatically, so you always must select Force Reload.
Another option is "Block reloading" in Gateway project configuration. When enabled you also must use Force Reload to import the latest data.
The purpose of these options - not to update the intermediate file automatically - is for testing purposes when creating user-defined types of analysis, and for parser error analysis.
