Dashboard: Visualization does not show the expected colors according to the palette used

Troubleshooting

Problem

Chart on a Cognos Analytics dashboard does not show the expected colors according to the palette set to be used. (expected are the first ones from the first line).

Symptom

The colors in the chart seem incorrect, for example, the colors from the 2nd line of the palette seem to be used instead of the first colors.

Cause

When mapping data to a color, the dashboard has a default property to maintain color consistency.  This means if an author colors data by by product line, that mapping is maintained across the dashboards visualizations.
The action of changing the color mapping to a different field means that the next available colors use for the new mapping.

Resolving The Problem

  1. Open the dashboard in edit mode (Pencil' button) then open the 'Dashboard Properties'
  2. Deactivate the setting 'Color consistency' in the 'Advanced' group of properties
  3. The deactivation of 'Color consistency' does not have an immediate effect. The dashboard has to be saved and opened again to see the expected colors.
Disabling the color consistency property in the dashboard gives users the option of always taking the color order defined in the palette regardless of the field has already been used.
