IT33027: APPLICATION BACKUP CAN FAIL WITH "APPMETADATA.JSON(1): EXPECTED VALUE"

APAR status

Error description

  • During an IBM Spectrum Protect Plus application backup,
    it can fail if the appMetadata.json file contains no data
      or information within the file. The message encountered
      in the joblog appears as the following:
    
      JOBLOG:

      ERROR,...,[HOSTNAME] Exception caught: err:

        expected value]
    
      Just prior to the error message, is the path to the
      application log file that may show additional information in
      a file called the command.log. Reviewing the command.log
      file, you see the following:
    
      COMMAND.LOG:

        [c:\ProgramData\SPP\mnt\SPPB_spp_xxx\appMetadata.json(1):
        expected value]]

      What you can see is there was an attempt to parse the
      appMetadata.json file but it failed. At this point, review
      the contents of the file to determine if the file is valid.
      There should be content in the file besides spaces.

Local fix

  •   Remove the appMetadata.json file in the location specified.
      During the next backup the file will be recreated.
