Removing tables from CDC for z/OS catalog to reduce CPU for out-of-scope tables

How To

Summary

Unused tables in the CDC for z/OS catalog can cause the product to perform inefficiently and should be removed from the metadata.

Objective

When a table is first selected for replication, the table attributes are automatically captured and stored in the metadata. However, when a table is dropped from all subscriptions, the table remains in the metadata so that all relevant history of the table attributes is available should the table subsequently be re-selected for replication. This can cause the product to process unnecessary log records, and should be removed from the list of replication tables if not required.
When an instance of CDC for z/OS is started, it generates a Configuration Review Report. One of the items that appears in the report is a list of tables that are in the replication catalog but not in any subscriptions, along with a warning that these can cause the product to perform inefficiently. You can remove tables from the replication catalog base on this report.

Steps

To remove the table from the catalog, the following steps should be taken in Management Console:

1. Select the configuration perspective.
2. Select the DB2 for z/OS datastore, right click, and select Replication Tables from the pop-up menu
3. For each table to be removed, expand the schema and select the table.
4. Select Remove from the menu (this does not remove the table from the system, only from the replication metadata).
5. To see if a table is selected for any subscription, select Properties from the table menu and then click the Subscriptions tab.
