Configuring IBM Rational Rhapsody Gateway Types Files for Global Usage

Question & Answer

Question

How do I make a Gateway types file available globally?

Cause

Users might want to share customized types files for co-workers.

Answer

Following is a solution that allows the user to specify pieces of the Rhapsody Gateway configuration that will be loaded on startup:

Edit either the rg.ini located in the installation directory or the rg.ini file that is located in your %USERPROFILE%\Application Data directory.

Set the following INI settings:

    [Files]
    Config=$TOOL\config,<path_to_additional_config_on_server>

    $TOOL\config is compulsory and shall be the first configuration loaded.
Then, your other configurations must have the following directory layout:

    -> <path_to_additional_config_on_server>
    -> types
    -> Category1
    -> mytypeA.types
    -> Category2
    -> mytypes.types
    -> otscript
    -> images

It is also possible to specify the customized Rhapsody Gateway configuration within a Shortcut:

    "<path_to_Gateway>\bin.w32\rg.exe" "Config=$TOOL\config,<path_to_additional_config_on_server>" -exec openFromRhapsody
In the last case, you must use the shortcut instead of the Rhapsody Helper.
