APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
In the InjectionUtils handleParameter and createFromParameterHandler WAS may instaniate a new Java Object based on a object type passed into the JAX-RS code. Depending on the Object type and the value being passed for the object the call to the constructor for the object may produce invalid results such as IllegalArgumentException. A example would be a Date object with a null value. A Date object can be set to a null value however, when the Date constructor is called the Date must have a valid value as Java parses the Date. One would see the following error for the Date case: Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException at java.util.Date.parse(Date.java:628) at java.util.Date.(Date.java:285) at sun.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance0(Nativ e Method) at sun.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance(Native Cons tructorAccessorImpl.java:88) at sun.reflect.DelegatingConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance(De lega tingConstructorAccessorImpl.java:57) at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.newInstance(Constructor.java:4 36) at org.apache.cxf.jaxrs.utils.InjectionUtils.handleParameter(In ject ionUtils.java:449) In the org.apache.cxf.jaxrs=all trace we would see: org.apache.cxf.jaxrs.utils.InjectionUtils createFromParameterHandler RETURN null org.apache.cxf.jaxrs.utils.InjectionUtils getOrThrowActualException ENTRY java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException at java.util.Date.parse(Date.java:628) at java.util.Date.(Date.java:285)
Local fix
When using JAX-RS ensure that objects that will be instaniated in the InjectionUtils code have valid values for the constructor call.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server Liberty Profile - Web Services (JAX- * * RS) * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: An illegal argument exception might * * occur due to an attempt to construct an * * Date Object with invalid arguments. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** A null Date argument would be passed to a Date construtor, resulting in an IllegalArgumentException.
Problem conclusion
Code is updated to return a null under these conditions, since the object cannot be constructed. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 16.0.0.2 Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980
