Storage compression capacity issue on Cloud Pak System W3550 with IBM FlashSystem modules FS900 MTM 9840-AE3

Troubleshooting

Problem

IBM Cloud Pak System model W3550 with IBM FlashSystem modules FS900 MTM 9840-AE3 (base or expansion that supports storage compression feature) displays the “maximum effective capacity” instead of “usable capacity”.
This condition might cause over-allocation of storage since the “maximum effective capacity” is calculated on the ability to apply maximum compression. The ability to achieve “maximum effective capacity” is dependent on the type of customer data that is written.
This condition exists on W3550 systems with FS900 MTM 9840-AE3 and with the following versions:
  • IBM PureApplication System Version 2.2.6
  • IBM Cloud Pak System Version 2.3.1.1
  • IBM Cloud Pak System Version 2.3.2.0

Diagnosing The Problem

Click Hardware -> Storage Devices -> SVC/FS900 RUs in the IBM Cloud Pak System console to validate the capacity value.
