Abstract
SAN Volume Controller and FlashSystem V9000 systems running software between 8.1.0.0 and 8.2.1.5 or 8.3.0.0, in specific configurations, may be exposed to a memory leak, which can cause node warmstarts or performance issues on long-running systems.
The issue is fixed in 8.2.1.6 and later, and 8.3.0.1 and later.

APAR HU02016 is a memory leak issue related to SCSI unmap support for storage controllers. This can cause a shortage of system memory, and unexpected node warmstarts or performance issues, when all of the following factors are combined:
- SVC or V9000 system with 64GB or less RAM per node
- Software between 8.1.0.0 and 8.2.1.5 inclusive, or 8.3.0.0.
- RTC compression enabled
- Mdisks from one of the following controllers: IBM FlashSystem 9846-AE3, IBM A9000, IBM Storwize controllers running 8.1.0 or later, or Pure systems.
Systems which meet all of these criteria should be upgraded to the latest 8.2.1 or 8.3.1 PTF, to avoid node warmstarts and performance issues. If the system differs in any one of these respects, it is not affected by the issue.
