IBM Support

Server Busy warning message and logon prompt displayed when trying to use IBM Cognos Framework Manager

Troubleshooting

Problem

Framework Manager cannot be used because a Windows® dialogue box appears on the screen saying the server is busy. Behind it is a Windows® Security login prompt.

Symptom

Two dialogue boxes from Windows® appear on the screen; the Server Busy notification and the login prompt:
1. Server Busy
This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose 'switch to' to activate the busy program and correct the problem.
2. Windows® Security
BMT11
Connecting to server.domain.com
There are fields for username and password.

Cause

Framework Manager uses Internet Explorer® on the back end so this behavior can happen when Internet Explorer® settings are not configured as needed by Framework Manager to run successfully.

Environment

Framework Manager installed on a Windows® 10 client machine.

Resolving The Problem

  • Start Internet Explorer® on the computer where Framework Manager is installed
  • Click Tools > Internet Options
  • Click Security tab > Trusted sites > click the Sites button
  • If checked, clear the “Require server verification” checkbox
  • Enter the Cognos Analytics server name, for example: caservername.domain.com
  • Click add > click close
  • Click the Custom Level button > scroll down to the end of the settings list
  • Make sure the “Automatic logon with current username and password” at logon checkbox is checked. If access to change this option is unavailable, you need to ask your system administrator to make the change.
  • Click OK twice and exit Internet Explorer® and start Framework Manager.
