Error description
Administrative Console for WebSphere V6 running on Solaris is slow and takes long time to list Enterprise Application and Application Server panel. Steps to recreate the problem: 1) Log onto Administrative Console from any platform for WebSphere V6 running on Solaris platform. 2) Click on the "+" for Applications and then click on "Enterprise Applications" It takes long time (4 minutes) to display the Enterprise Applications list. 3) Click on the "+" for Servers and then click on "Application Servers" It takes long time (4 minutes) to display the Enterprise Applications list. 4) If you try this action again, it lists the Enterprise Applications without any delay. 5) It also seem to take long time if you log out from Administrative Console, and log in again, and try to list Enterprise Applications or Application Servers.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Websphere application server version 6 * * users who are using the administrative * * console. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Administrative console is slow to * * respond when trying to list Enterprise * * applications, Application server list * * for the first time. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** In Websphere Application Server Version 6 Open the Administrative console 1) Click Application servers or Enterprise applications. 2) Administrative console takes several minutes to respond. This is a problem only the first time after login. There will not be any delay in the next attempt to view Application servers or Enterprise applications through the administrative console. This is because we try to test the connection to external site first and then use that value later on to determine if the connection was succesfull or not. So to reproduce this problem There should be firewall set which stops the console from opening an external connection. This problem can be easily recreated in Solaris environment.
Problem conclusion
We have removed part of the code which was trying to connect to an external site and causing delay. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fixpack 6.0.0.3 Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery dates: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&context=SSEQTP &uid=swg27004980
