Error description

  • An IMS Connect Userexit is written in COBOL and has an
assembler stub that initializes a LE runtime environment for
subroutines (function code 3) when called by IMS CONNECT with
the 'INIT' function code, calls the COBOL routine when called
with any function code and terminates the LE enclave when
    called with 'TERM'.

This works fine with COBOL V4, but COBOL V5 gets a S0C4 ABEND.

Local fix

  • As a temporary workaround, if none of the LE programs running
in the CEEPIPI environment is AMODE(24), user can add the
ALL31(ON) runtime option to the CEEPIPI INIT_SUB call to bypass
    the problem.

During LE enclave initialization, the Enterprise COBOL V5+
runtime unconditionally switched the PSW key when the
ALL31(OFF) runtime option is in effect. The key switching is
only necessary under CICS, and normally benign under batch.

Problem conclusion

  • The Enterprise COBOL V5+ runtime is corrected to only switch
the PSW key when running under CICS.
