APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • If an application has overwritten word zero of the caller's save
area, an 0C4 may ensue during a dynamic call. This change will
    produce a diagnostic message instead.

Local fix

  • Correct the overwrite.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL V5.1 and later *
    * releases compiling and running programs *
    * that use dynamic CALL. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ABEND 0C4 during runtime when the *
    * COBOL program is using dynamic CALL. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
New Function. If control information in the stack of a COBOL
program is corrupted, and the program calls a sub-program using
dynamic CALL, the call cannot be completed properly. A new
diagnostic check is added to the COBOL Library to catch the
    error.

Problem conclusion

  • New Function. The COBOL Library has added a diagnostic check
when setting up dynamic CALL, and emits message IGZ0347 to
indicate error if control information in the stack is corrupted.
