This document lists IBM WebSphere Application Server v8.5 Java SDK Version 8, version 7.1, and version 7 i-fix packages for WebSphere Application Server V8.5

This document lists IBM WebSphere Application Server v8.5 Java SDK Version 8, version 7.1, and version 7 i-fix packages.  Install the Java SDK package for your operating system by using IBM Installation Manager. For IBM WebSphere Application Server v9.0 Java i-fix packages, please see IBM SDK Java Technology Edition Version 8.0 for WebSphere Application Server V9 and WebSphere Liberty using Installation Manager

  • Java 8 Bundled: Java SDK 8 bundled offerings for WebSphere Application Server traditional installed by default with the product since 8.5.5.14. Intended for parties interested in using a specific desired Java 8 version bundled with WebSphere.
  • Java 8: Java SDK 8 extension offerings for WebSphere Application Server traditional. Intended for parties interested in using Java 8 with WebSphere in addition to the bundled java offering. Since WebSphere 8.5.5.14, the default Java bundle is Java SDK 8 making this offering obsolete. (Out of support February 2021. The last i-fixes published are 8.0.6.25. Please use the bundled offering.)
  • Java 7.1: Java SDK 7.1 extension offering for WebSphere Application Server traditional. Intended for parties interested in using Java 7.1 with WebSphere in addition to the bundled java offering. (Out of support July 2022. Last i-fixes published are for 7.1.5.15 valid up to WebSphere version 8.5.5.22.)
  • Java 7: Java SDK 7 extension offering for WebSphere Application Server traditional. Intended for parties interested in using Java 7 with WebSphere in addition to the bundled java offering. (Out of support July 2022. Last i-fixes published are for 7.0.11.15 valid up to WebSphere version 8.5.5.22.)

IMPORTANT NOTES:
Java updates/fixpacks are cumulative. When a specific Java fix pack is recommended, that specific fix pack or a later fix pack can be applied. For example, if Java 8.0.8.10 is recommended then applying Java 8.0.8.10, 8.0.8.15, or a later fix pack is valid as it includes all fixes included in the lower fix pack.
The install of a Java fixpack will overwrite any iFixes or manual updates that have been made to any files within the Java install path. For example, if you have modified the security provider order in the java.security file, these changes will be reverted by the update unless further action is taken. Special considerations for environments with Java interim fixes:
  • If any files under WAS_HOME/java are added or modified subsequent to installing an interim fix, the additions or changes will be lost when interim fixes are uninstalled
  • When the first JDK interim fix is installed on top of a fixpack, it performs a backup of the WAS_HOME/java and saves it in WAS_HOME/properties/patches/backup
  • When the interim fix is uninstalled (manually, or by a fixpack update that no longer requires the interim fix) WAS_HOME/java will be removed and replaced by the backup
