Description

The following bonding modes are supported for ibmveth and ibmvnic:

  • ibmveth
    • mode 1 (active-backup) with fail_over_mac = 1 (active) or fail_over_mac = 2 (follow)
  • ibmvnic
    • mode 1 (active-backup) with fail_over_mac = 1 (active) or fail_over_mac = 2 (follow)*
    • mode 4 802.3ad (LACP), if only one logical port is configured for the physical port

*ibmvnic follows a client/server model. If the vNIC server is unavailable because of a Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) crash, or by running the rmdev -l vnicserverX command, the vNIC client does not send a mac address change request to the vNIC server. An error message similar to the following message is displayed in the message log: "Error 5 setting MAC of old active slave".
