Error description

  • Where possible at compile time, the COBOL v6.3 compiler verifies
that reference modification start and length values are valid
for the data item being addressed, and if not generates the
    message

            IGYCB7315-W A reference modifier with a non-positive
            value was found.

There are cases where the refmod is correct but the compiler
    still generates the message.

Local fix

  • The message can safely be ignored if the refmod is found to be
    valid.

    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
When computing the start position for a reference modification
in order to display the message, the compiler was sometimes
omitting the offset of a reference-modified data item relative
to the start of its group, causing the start offset to
    incorrectly appear to be negative.

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler was fixed to correctly compute the start position
    for a reference modification.
