APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When migrating the DMGR fro 7.0 to 8.0 job BBOWDPRE, step
  PREUPGRD took a very long time to complete.  This happened when
  there is a large wstemp directory.  It appears as the job using
  CPU but no I/O appears in the same time frame.
  

Local fix

• Cleanup of the /wstemp directory contents has been shown to
  improve the time needed for the PRUPGRD step to run all of its
  backup file processing.

  The isclite migration extension searches the entire wstemp
  directory for a few files.  Many customers do not clean up
  this directory very often.  Thus the long seach time where
  WASPreUpgrade seems to be hung.
  

Problem conclusion

• Limit the depth when searching the wstemp directory to where
  the isclite prefs.xml files are located instead of recursively
  searching the whole wstemp directory.
  
  APAR PI34638 is currently targeted for inclusion in Fix Packs
  8.5.5.6 and 8.0.0.11 of the WebSphere Application Server.
