Files not restored automatically after upgrading VIOS via viosupgrade with -g option

Question & Answer

Question

I upgraded the Virtual I/O Server from version 2.2.6.51 to 3.1.1.0 by running:
$ viosupgrade -l -i 3110_mksysb -a hdisk1 -g files_to_restore.txt
But the files listed in files_to_restore.txt were not automatically restored after the upgrade.
$ cat files_to_restore.txt
/etc/filesystems
/etc/inittab
/etc/hosts
/etc/motd
/etc/netsvc.conf
/etc/environment
/var/spool/cron/crontabs/root

Cause

When using viosupgrade command with "-g filename" option, the files will be copied to /home/padmin/backup_files after the installation.
From viosupgrade command:
"Requirements
Installations through the viosupgrade command are of the type New and Complete installation. Any customized configurations that might exist on the currently running system before the installation starts (including the timezone), are not included in the new installation image. If you need to copy any customized file to the new image, use the -g flag with the file option. You must specify all the customized files in a separate line with the complete path. These files are copied to the /home/padmin/backup_files directory after the installation.
"

Answer

The files will be restored in /home/padmin/backup_files directory, not to the directory path noted in the file specified with -g option.
List the contents of /home/padmin/backup_files to verify that files were restored.
Then, manually copy or move the files to the desired location.
