Removal of IBM Db2 Secure Shell Server (SSH) in Windows environments

Troubleshooting

Problem

Starting in Db2 Version 11.5 Mod Pack 4, the IBM Db2 Secure Shell Server (SSH) For Windows is discontinued.
SSH is required to support some IBM Data Server Manager (DSM) administrative requests (such as instance management requests, RunSQL CLP option commands, instance/database administration requests, and job manager requests).  Some Db2 Windows users may have built dependencies on SSH for other reasons.
If you require SSH, see Installing SFTP/SSH Server on Windows using OpenSSH for instructions on how to install OpenSSH for Windows. (If you require SSH because your database is administered through DSM, please assure that DSM Fix Pack v2.1.5.5 or later is installed before proceeding to deploy and use OpenSSH on your database server, otherwise, DSM administrative functions will receive the error "Failed to connect to SSH server with username <username>")
For new installations of Db2 Version 11.5 Mod Pack 4 or later (where no previous Db2 release or modification pack or fixpack was installed), then no previously installed IBM Db2 Secure Shell Server binaries will reside on the system, no further action is needed.  Proceed to install OpenSSH if and when you require it.
If upgrading to Db2 Version 11.5 Mod Pack 4 or later, from a previous release or modification pack or fixpack (prior to Version 11.5 Mod Pack 4):
  • If you upgraded using the 'Install New' option, then after completing your database server upgrade tasks, proceed to install OpenSSH if and when you require it. The IBM Db2 Secure Shell Server will be removed when you uninstall the previous older version of Db2.
  • If you upgraded using the 'Work With Existing' option, then a previously installed Db2 Secure Shell Server will still reside on the system. You can manually remove the IBM Db2 Secure Shell Server using the instructions below. Proceed to install OpenSSH if and when you require it.
For installations of Db2 prior to Version 11.5 Mod Pack 4, you can also manually remove the IBM Db2 Secure Shell Server using the instructions below. Proceed to install OpenSSH if and when you require it.
Instructions for manually removing IBM Db2 Secure Shell Server:
- Determining the installation folder where the Db2 Secure Shell Server was installed by examining the value of the "SSH_SERVER_INSTALL_DIR" registry variable (navigate to Control Panel -> System Properties -> Environment Variables).
- Delete the SSH installation folder and it's contents.
- Restart the system.
