IBM Support

Change the cube or datasource used by an exploration

Troubleshooting

Problem

User would like to use an Exploration report (created on Planning Analytics for MSExcel) from one PA instance into another.  The instance doesn't have the same name.  However the cube on the new instance is replica of the source cube/instance.
User is referencing this IBM documentation to try and achieve this:  Change the cube or data source used by an exploration.

Symptom

When the user attempts to change the data source (connection) or the package (model and\or cube), the Exploration rows, columns and context is blanked out and no amount of Refresh will repopulate the Exploration with the new definition.

Resolving The Problem

  1.  It is NOT possible to create an Exploration, using one instance, and use the SAME on another instance.
  2. The behavior experienced (see Symptoms) is expected when the user is changing the cube or datasource as outlined in Change the cube or data source used by an exploration.
  3. The purpose of the function is to have a swap-sheet (template) of an exploration within your book as a scratch area.  This 'reset' effect allows for quick repoint it at arbitrary selections.
  4. To update old connections, use the Update connection utility.
