Abstract
Systems with Distributed RAID arrays on 8.2.1.6 or 8.3.0.0 may be exposed to APAR HU02083 in the event of drive failure and rebuild.
The probability of this issue is very low, but if it occurs then it can result in multiple node warmstarts, and in rare cases loss of data. The issue can occur on any system running Spectrum Virtualize software with Distributed RAID arrays.
No other software versions are affected. Upgrade to the latest 8.2.1.x or 8.3.0.x PTF to prevent the issue.

In certain RAID configurations, an array rebuild can cause incorrect handling of the array bitmap, due to an arithmetic error. This results in repeated node warmstarts, and loss of access to data. Upgrade to an ifix is required to restore access to data.
In rare cases, the RAID array bitmap can become invalid, which then leads to data loss.
This is more likely to happen on RAID arrays with stripewidth 16 and a multiple of 48 drives, but occasionally can occur with other configurations.
Fix
Upgrade to the latest 8.2.1.x or 8.3.0.x PTF to prevent the issue.
