Error description
The "Adjusting the MVFS scaling factor" page at https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSSH27_9.0.1/com.ibm .rational.clearcase.cc_admin.doc/topics/t_perf_clnt_scale_factor .htm incorrectly states: "The default MVFS scaling factor is automatically set based on the available physical memory installed on the host." This statement is incorrect. A more correct statement would be: "For Unix/Linux hosts, the default MVFS scaling factor is automatically set based on the available physical memory installed on the host. For Windows host, the scaling factor is set at the time of installation and does not change unless manually adjusted."

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * Users of ClearCase dynamic views on Microsoft Windows * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * As stated in the ClearCase documentation, the default MVFS * * scaling factor is automatically set based on the available * * physical memory installed on the host. On Microsoft Windows, * * two distinct problems were inhibiting this heuristic * * algorithm from functioning properly. The allowable values * * for this tunable parameter are 0-5. An error in the * * calculation was causing this range to be truncated to 0-2. * * There was also a defect in the ClearCase Control Panel * * application which prevented the actual value that is in use * * from being displayed, unless the default had been explicitly * * overridden when installing ClearCase. Unless it was changed * * during the installation, the Control Panel always showed 1 * * as the scaling factor value. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * ****************************************************************
Problem conclusion
These problems are fixed in ClearCase 9.0.1.10 and 9.0.2.2. If the default value is not overridden during installation, the MVFS scaling factor on a Windows system will be correctly calculated in the range 0-5, and the ClearCase Control Panel application will correctly display the calculated value.
