IT31829: REGISTRY PASSWORD NOT MIGRATED WHEN UPGRADING FROM OLDER THAN V7.1.8/V8.1.2 TSM/SPECTRUM PROTECT CLIENT TO V8.1.9 CLIENT

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When migrating clients older than V7.1.8 or V8.1.2 to V7.1.8 or
    V8.1.2 or later, the password stored in the registry should be
    migrated to the new password store. The registry password is not
    migrated when upgrading clients older than V7.1.8 or V8.1.2 to
    V8.1.9, this causes the client to prompt for a password after
    the upgrade.
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    When upgrading a version V6.x client to V8.1.7 and V8.1.8
    migrate the registry password, the following is seen in the
    installation log:

    The 8.1.9 installation log shows the following:

    8.1.9 on Windows

Local fix

  • Uninstall the client and then install the V8.1.9 client instead
    of performing an upgrade.

Problem conclusion

  • The password migration check was updated so that when a customer
    now tries to upgrade from an v7.1.8 or v8.1.2 to v8.1.10, the
    password will be migrated.
