Abstract
The following list describes the features introduced in several releases of the Content Manager OnDemand products:
Content
Content Manager OnDemand versions:
- Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms and z/OS Version 10.5
- Content Manager OnDemand for i Version 7.5
- Content Manager OnDemand for i Version 7.4
Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms and z/OS Version 10.5 features
- REST Services APIs for Content Manager OnDemand
- REST (Representational State Transfer) is an architecture used in client/server communications. Content Manager OnDemand now includes REST Services APIs along with regular Java APIs (OnDemand Web Enablement Kit). REST Services APIs offer a simplified interface for integrating enterprise applications that need to interface with Content Manager OnDemand by using HTTP-based stateless protocol. With REST Services, you can do anything you already do with normal web services, but in an easier way, often consuming fewer system resources. For more information, see the Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit Implementation Guide.
- Support for object storage from multiple storage vendors, including new support for Microsoft Azure
- In addition to traditional on-premises file system-based storage, Content Manager OnDemand supports external object storage from multiple vendors such as IBM Cloud Object Storage, Amazon S3, Apache HDFS, Hitachi Content Platform, and OpenStack Swift, as well support for using an external file system. The choice of object storage is further expanded in V10.5 with support for Microsoft Azure.
- Support for immutable object storage for IBM Cloud Object Storage and Hitachi Content Platform
- Content Manager OnDemand helps preserve your content and uses a write once read many (WORM) configuration of IBM Cloud Object Storage or Hitachi Content Platform to protect data against deletion or modification until the end of a specified retention period.
- HTML5 line data viewer with graphical annotations
- With the deprecation of applet-based technologies, a modern HTML5-based line data viewer with graphical annotation capability is available for use with IBM Content Navigator to view and annotate line data content in Content Manager OnDemand.
- Single sign-on support for IBM Content Navigator
- When IBM Content Navigator (ICN) is configured for use with Content Manager OnDemand, single sign-on capability can be enabled. See the ICN documentation for ICN setup and operational information.
- Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) synchronization tool to synchronize users and group definitions from directory servers
- A new LDAP synchronization tool is included in V10.5 to help automate the synchronization of changes in user and group definitions in corporate directory servers with Content Manager OnDemand.
- Management of content encryption keys in KMIP-compliant external management server (on Multiplatforms servers only)
- Content Manager OnDemand V10.5 supports the management of content encryption keys in an external management server that is compliant with OASIS Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP). Enterprises typically use a key management server for improved security and centralized management of encryption keys. Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms now supports KMIP, which allows it to be configured with products such as IBM Security Key Lifecycle Manager.
- ARSXML schema file location changes
- At Content Manager OnDemand V10.5, ARSXML no longer looks for the schema file location based on the xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation attribute in the input XML file. The noNamespaceSchemaLocation attribute is ignored and no longer needed. In addition, the -s parameter used with the ARSXML EXPORT function to specify the schema location is no longer needed and is removed in V10.5. If the -s parameter is specified, an error message is issued.
- New diagnostic logging at the Java layer for ODWEK Java APIs
- The Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit (ODWEK) Java APIs now provide diagnostic logging at the Java layer. To enable the new logging capabilities, the ODApi.jar file now has a dependency on Log4j 2. This dependency is in addition to another new V10.5 ODApi.jar file dependency on Gson. At V10.5, the Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit installation includes the gson-2.8.6.jar file, the log4j-api-2.13.0.jar, and the log4j-core-2.13.0.jar in the jars directory. These JAR files must be found in the ODWEK CLASSPATH in order to run the ODWEK Java APIs. For more information on setting the CLASSPATH, see the Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit Implementation Guide.
- Windows Configurator enhancements:
- Microsoft Azure access method added.
- Any V10.1 instance can be upgraded to V10.5 with the option to revert back to V10.1.
- Any pre-V10.1 instance can be upgraded to V10.5 without the option to revert back.
- Coexistence of pre-10.1, V10.1 and V10.5 instances, servers and Configurators is now allowed.
- When upgrading a pre-V9.5 instance to V10.5, the Report Distribution service is dropped.
- All new or upgraded instances now have a version number. The version number is defined with a VERSION string registry value for the instance, which can have a value of "9.5", "10.1" or "10.5".
- New software prerequisites for Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms and z/OS V10.5
- For details, review the Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms V10.5 readme files at www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/1170988 or the Content Manager OnDemand for z/OS V10.5 readme file at www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/1170994.
- Note that Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), now known as IBM Spectrum Protect, is still supported as TSM in V10.5. TSM support on z/OS or IBM i requires the use of a Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms object server.
- Content Manager OnDemand V10.5 deprecates or removes the following functions previously supported:

- Starting your first Content Manager OnDemand instance (by using the Start TCP/IP Server (STRTCPSVR) command) or running your first Archived Storage Management (ASM) process (by using the Start Archived Storage Management (STRASMOND) command) after upgrading to Content Manager OnDemand for i V7.5 might take longer if you are not already at Content Manager OnDemand server version 9.5.0.0 or later before you upgrade. The delay is due to database changes in the server tables. Important: Do not end the server job or the ASM job because you are concerned that it is not progressing. Messages are issued during the database changes. You can check the job log to confirm that the job is progressing.
- When you start your first Content Manager OnDemand instance (by using the Start TCP/IP Server (STRTCPSVR) command) or run your first Archived Storage Management (ASM) process (by using the Start Archived Storage Management (STRASMOND) command) after upgrading to V7.5, you might receive a message in the QSYSOPR message queue that requires a response. The message is sent if your server version will change during your upgrade to V7.5. For example, if you are running V7.3 with server version 9.5.0.4 and you upgrade to V7.5 which runs server version 10.5.0.4, you will receive the message. The message text is: The Content Manager OnDemand server will be upgraded to server version 10.5.0.4. (C G). If you have reviewed the Content Manager OnDemand for i Read This First document for V7.5 and are ready to upgrade to server version 10.5.0.4, reply G to Go. Your Content Manager OnDemand instance servers will not start until you respond with a G. If you respond with a C to Cancel, the instance server will not start and the message will continue to be sent each time you attempt to start an instance server until you respond with a G to Go.
- Content Manager OnDemand for i V7.5 deprecates or removes the following functions previously supported:
-
Important information for previous users of Spool File Archive (the predecessor product to Content Manager OnDemand Common Server): Version 7.4 of Content Manager OnDemand for i was the last release to include Spool File Archive Report Management Cycle (RMC) functionality. RMC was used to manage data that was archived in Spool File Archive (SFA) that had not yet been migrated to the Archived Storage Manager (ASM) of Content Manager OnDemand Common Server. Before upgrading to Content Manager OnDemand for i V7.5, all Spool File Archive data that has not already been migrated to Common Server must be migrated or you will lose access to that data.
If you migrated from Spool File Archive to Common Server by respooling your data and archiving it directly into Common Server or if you used the Media Migration Facility (MMF; the Migrate Media (MGRMEDRDAR) command) to migrate your Spool File Archive data such that it is now under the control of ASM, this information does not impact you. If you never implemented Spool File Archive, but instead implemented Common Server at Version 5.1 or later, this information does not impact you. In any of those cases, you are not affected by the removal of RMC functionality in Content Manager OnDemand for i V7.5. The removal of RMC functionality only impacts you if you have not migrated your Spool File Archive data to Common Server.
For more information on how to use the Media Migration Facility and the Migrate Media (MGRMEDRDAR) command to migrate your Spool File Archive data to ASM of Common Server, see the documentation at www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/318763 or at www.ibm.com using “318763” as search criteria. If you have further questions, contact IBM support in your geography.

- New UTF-8 database fields support for new Content Manager OnDemand for i instances.
- Encryption (added at server version 10.1)
- Content Manager OnDemand native encryption support encrypts your physical data at rest, by using AES256 encryption, requires no hardware, software, or application changes, and provides transparent and secure key management. Encryption can be enabled for storing new data, but does not apply to existing data that already resides in Content Manager OnDemand.
- Unique ID support (added at server version 10.1)
- The value uniquely identifies a document in Content Manager OnDemand. If a document is stored with more than one row of indexes (multi-key), each row will have a different unique document ID. Unique ID support can be enabled for storing new data, but does not apply to existing data that already resides in Content Manager OnDemand.
- Hash SHA-256 support (added at server version 10.1)
- The value uniquely identifies a document in Content Manager OnDemand. If a document is stored with more than one row of indexes (multi-key), all rows will have the same Hash SHA-256 value. Hash SHA-256 support can be enabled for storing new data, but does not apply to existing data that already resides in Content Manager OnDemand.

- LDAP Synchronization (ARSLSYNC) is a new Content Manager OnDemand program that allows for the synchronization of users and groups between LDAP-compliant directory servers and Content Manager OnDemand.
- New HTML5 viewer (added at server version 10.1.0.2)
- A new viewer is provided for viewing line data documents from a web browser when using Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit (ODWEK). While Content Manager OnDemand customers can continue to use the Line Data Applet, this new viewer is HTML5-based.
- New System Administrator (Read-Only) user type (added at server and client version 10.1)
- When using the OnDemand Administrator client, users with a type of System Administrator (Read-Only) can view and summarize objects. The Add, Update, Copy, Delete, and Export options are not available. Trace Parameters and System Parameters can be viewed but not updated. When using the Content Manager OnDemand component of IBM Navigator for i, users with a type of System Administrator (Read-Only) can view objects. The Add, Change, Create based on, and Delete options are not available.
- OnDemand Administrator client, OnDemand end-user client, and OnDemand Monitor client available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions (added at client version 10.1)
- The 32-bit and 64-bit clients can coexist on a 64-bit workstation.
- The version 9.5 and version 10.1 clients can coexist on the same workstation.
- The following limitations exist in the 64-bit clients but are fully supported in the 32-bit clients:
- In the 64-bit OnDemand Administrator client, the following is not supported:
- Graphical indexer markup of PDF documents
- In the 64-bit OnDemand end-user client, the following are not supported:
- CD-ROM mastering
- Adobe Acrobat (for viewing PDF documents seamlessly within the client viewing window versus viewing in a separate window with Adobe Reader)
- OLE interfaces
- DDE interfaces
- In the 64-bit OnDemand Administrator client, the following is not supported:
- OnDemand Administrator client enhancements (added at server and client version 10.1)
- When selecting a spooled file to download for use in the OnDemand Administrator graphical indexer, the displayed list of spooled files to select now includes only the data type chosen in the Report Wizard (for a new application), or the current data type (for an existing application). Also in the graphical indexer, performance improvements have been made for downloading the list of spooled files to select, and the sample data to use for indexing. Because of the improved performance, the maximum number of pages to download has been increased from 150 to 10,000. In addition, after a list of spooled files is downloaded, that list can now be sorted. When a column title is clicked, the list is sorted in ascending order based on the contents of the column. If the same column is clicked again, the column is then sorted in descending order.
- Add Report (ADDRPTOND) command enhancement (provided by PTF in V7.2 and V7.3)
- The Add Report (ADDRPTOND) command has a new Trace stream file (TRCSTMF) parameter to generate a server trace of the ARSLOAD program that is run by the command. If you specify a value for this parameter, tracing is enabled for the specific occurrence of the ADDRPTOND command, and ends when the ADDRPTOND command completes.
- Create Instance (CRTINSTOND) command enhancement (provided by PTF in V7.2 and V7.3)
- The Create Instance (CRTINSTOND) command has a new Database files CCSID (DBFCCSID) parameter to specify whether the instance database files should be created by using the CCSID derived from the specified locale or by using UTF-8 (also known as Unicode).
- ARSXLINE utility enhancements (added at server version 10.1)

- Content Manager OnDemand for i V7.4 deprecates or removes the following functions previously supported:
-
Important information for previous users of Spool File Archive (the predecessor product to Content Manager OnDemand Common Server): Version 7.4 of Content Manager OnDemand for i will be the last release to include Spool File Archive Report Management Cycle (RMC) functionality. RMC is used to manage data that was archived in Spool File Archive (SFA) that has not yet been migrated to the Archived Storage Manager (ASM) of Common Server.
In any of those cases, you are not affected by the removal of RMC functionality in the release of Content Manager OnDemand for i after Version 7.4. The removal of RMC functionality only impacts you if you have not migrated your Spool File Archive data to Common Server.
For more information on how to use the Media Migration Facility and the Migrate Media (MGRMEDRDAR) command to migrate your Spool File Archive data to ASM, see the documentation at www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27008380 or at www.ibm.com using “7008380” as search criteria. If you have further questions, contact IBM support in your geography.
- Previous versions of Content Manager OnDemand for i supported the use of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) in addition to ASM or in place of ASM as your storage manager, or simply as another media choice for use in ASM migration policies. The Tivoli Storage Manager APIs for IBM i were withdrawn from support on April 30, 2015. Because of the Tivoli Storage Manager APIs support withdrawal, Content Manager OnDemand for i no longer supports Tivoli Storage Manager in either of the previously described scenarios. This end of support affects you if you are using Tivoli Storage Manager as your storage manager or using Tivoli Storage Manager as a level within an ASM migration policy. If you meet either of these conditions, you must make changes to continue to access your archived data. If you are using Tivoli Storage Manager as your storage manager, Tivoli Storage Manager can only be used with Content Manager OnDemand for i if you add a Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms object server between your IBM i system and your Tivoli Storage Manager server. If you are using Tivoli Storage Manager as a level within an ASM migration policy, you must migrate the data within the Tivoli Storage Manager level to another type of storage media before upgrading to V7.4. See the Content Manager OnDemand for i Read This First document for V7.4 for additional information. Note that all references to Tivoli Storage Manager and TSM have been removed from the Content Manager OnDemand component of IBM Navigator for i.
- The ODWEK 32-bit CGI and Servlet are no longer supported and are not included in V7.4. Customers that use CGI and Servlet should switch to IBM Content Navigator (ICN).
-
