    New in this release

This release of Rational Software Modeler contains new features and enhancements in the following areas:

      Rational RequisitePro integration
Note: The documentation for the following new features is not included in the online Help.
      • The new Requirement Editor view
The 7.0.0.4 release includes a new Requirement Editor view. In this view, you can edit the name, description, attributes, and traceability for a requirement. You can also add optional HTML tags to format the description.

If you add HTML tags to the description, the formatted text is displayed on the Preview page and in the Requirement Text view. The HTML tags are visible in Attribute Matrix views, on the Description page, and in the Requirement Properties window in Rational RequisitePro. Do not use HTML tags to format the description of requirements that are located in Microsoft Word documents.

To view and modify a requirement:
        1. In the Requirement Explorer view, double-click a requirement.
        2. In the Requirement Editor view, on the Overview page, view or modify the text for the requirement in the Description field. Optionally, you can add HTML tags and click Preview to view them as formatted text.
        3. In the Details section, specify attribute values.
        4. Click the Traceability tab to view and modify traceability to and from other requirements.
        5. On the toolbar, click Save.

      • The new Requirement Text view
The 7.0.0.4 release includes a new Requirement Text view. Click a requirement in any requirement view to display the name and description of a requirement in the Requirement Text view. Requirements that use HTML tags are displayed as formatted text in this view. Text in this view is read-only; use the Requirement Editor view to modify the name or description. Click the Pin Text View icon in this view or click requirements in other views to continue to display the current requirement text.

      • Links to WebSphere Business Modeling
Links between Rational RequisitePro requirements and WebSphere Business Modeling elements are now displayed in the UML domain.

      Rational XDE model import
      • New XDE object flow state mapping
Prior to and including the version 7.0.0.3 release of the product, object flow states in XDE import as central buffer nodes and XDE activity elements import as CallBehaviorActions.

In the version 7.0.0.4 release, this mapping has been modified; object flow states now import as create object action elements. If an object flow state is associated with a class, after being imported, the create object action references the class.

If you prefer the original mapping of object flow state to central buffer node, modify the eclipse.ini file with the following vmarg option:

        DXDE_ACTIVITY_DIAGRAM_OPTIONS

If the activity is specified as a leaf activity, activities import as OpaqueActions. If an activity owns activity diagrams, the activities import as structured activity nodes. This option also enables you to create object flow relationships between central buffer nodes and actions that contain pins on actions.

If you do not use this vmarg option, object flow states import as create object actions. This is new in version 7.0.0.4.

      • Importing unreleased XDE profiles
By default, all profiles from XDE are released when they are imported into the new modeling tools. After a profile is released and applied to a model, if the profile is changed, all models that use it must upgrade to the new version when opened. If you are still experimenting with the profile, you most likely do not want to release the profile. For example, if you want to change a profile from what it was in XDE to make it more appropriate for the new modeling tools, then you would not want to automatically release it on import.

You can now import profiles without releasing them; this functionality allows you to release and version the profiles at your convenience, or after you finish testing your profile. You can specify this option by selecting the Release the profiles option on the Profile Confirmation page of the Rational XDE Model Import wizard.

      • Activity diagram element sharing
In Rational XDE, you can share activity diagram elements within parent and child diagrams; however, this behavior is not allowed in the new modeling products.

If you select the Activity Elements Sharing Option on the Import Options page of the XDE model import wizard, all shared elements in your original XDE model import as independent elements that are no longer shared between different diagrams. This option is not selected by default.

If you do not select this option, you will lose the shared elements and your diagram will not import properly. If there are elements missing, there is a good chance the elements are shared in XDE. You can try this import option to bring in the model properly by recreating the missing element.

      Transformations
      • The new Transformation Configuration wizard
In the new Transformation Configuration wizard on the Name and Transformation page, the transformations provided by IBM have been reorganized. The UML-to-LDM (Logical Data Model) transformation has been renamed to “UML to Logical Data Model” and is displayed in the “Data Model Transformations” folder.

      • Enhancements to the UML-to-LDM and LDM-to-UML transformations
This version of the product provides a transformation that takes a UML object model as its source and generates an entity-relationship-based logical data model (LDM) as its output; while the inverse transformation, which is a feature of Rational Data Architect, generates a UML model from a logical data model.

In the earlier versions, these transformations would completely overwrite the target model when re-applied. These transformation features are now enhanced so that their re-application merges changes into an existing target model and, if necessary, opens a reconciliation dialog box to permit user mediation of conflicts. The enhancements to the inverse transformation were introduced in Rational Data Architect Fix Pack 7.0.0.3.

    Uninstalling the fix pack

If you updated a previously installed version to version 7.0.0.4, you can revert to the previous version by using the rollback feature of Installation Manager. For instructions on uninstalling the product, see the Installation Guide.

The rollback feature uninstalls the updated resources and reinstalls the resources from the previous version. You can only roll back one version level at a time.

When you roll back to an earlier version of a package, it will be restored with same features that were associated with that version; any features that you added after upgrading to version 7.0.0.4 by using the Modify Packages wizard will be removed, and any features that you removed will be restored.

During the rollback process, Installation Manager must access files from the earlier version of the package. By default, these files are stored on your system when you install a package. If you changed the default setting or deleted the files by using the Remove Stored Files option on the Roll Back preferences page (File > Preferences > Rollback Files), Installation Manager will require access to your installation repository or media. If you installed the product from a repository, you must have listed in your Preferences (File > Preferences > Repositories) the repository from which you installed the previous version of the product. If you installed the product from CDs or other media, they must be available when you use the rollback feature.

Before you roll back Rational Software Modeler, Version 7.0.0.4, complete the following steps:

    1. Log in with a user account that has the same privileges as the account that was used to install the packages to be uninstalled.
    2. Close Rational Software Modeler, Version 7.0.0.4 and any other applications that you installed by using Installation Manager.
    3. If any applications started by Rational Software Modeler are still open or running, such as a browser or WebSphere Application Server, close them.

To roll back an updated package, complete the following steps:
    1. Start IBM Installation Manager.
    2. On the Start page, click Roll Back Packages.
    3. In the Rollback wizard, from the Package Group Name list, select the package group that contains the packages that you want to roll back and click Next.
