The role of The Content Manager Cache service

Question & Answer

Question

The Content Manager Cache Service appears in the list of services in Cognos Administration. What is its purpose?

Answer

Each dispatcher maintains a local cache for objects retrieved from the content store.

This allows each dispatcher to store data locally which Cognos Services will access before querying the content store.

The local cache on the dispatcher for objects retrieved from the content store is implemented by the ContentManagerCacheService (CMCS)

This decreases the load on the content store and facilitates faster data retrieval for the dispatchers.

It is best practice to enable this service on all dispatchers.

This was introduces in Cognos BI 10.1.1. Memory is taken from the Java heap.

More details on the specific effects on bibus classes can be found in the below document.
