Question & Answer

Question

Guardium sometimes shows Scheduled Job Exceptions "java.lang.NullPointerException: Connection object was null. This could be due to a misconfiguration of the DataSourceFactory"

Cause

This was noticed on v9 Appliances and may also be relevant for v10 and later. The errors are sporadic - do not show at the same times every day

These exceptions appear to come as part of the Anomaly detection process.

The Anomaly detection process can have a list of jobs (correlation alerts) - each job is set to run on its own specific schedule. The exceptions can come at any time and do not seem to correlate with any of the job schedule times. For example the Exception may appear two days in a row at different times and then not at all for a few days

When this problem has been seen it is not possible to identify any further detail other than the most likely cause is bad network connectivity at certain times - a sporadic network problem.

Answer

Customers should take steps to check the network latency with their network team - especially over a time period longer than however often the Exceptions appear to come .

Some information on network setup and latency scenarios here.
