"Number of Rows Retrieved Exceeds the Data Retrieval Limit" is displayed after the first page of a HTML report

Question & Answer

Question

When a report violates the “maximum rows retrieved” property for a query, an error message for this only occurs when navigating to subsequent pages of the HTML report. How can I make the error occur in the first page of such reports?

Answer

This is by design. There is no way to display the error message on the first page for the reports that will exceed the "maximum rows retrieved" properties because HTML output always retrieves the query results per page. So the message cannot be circumvented that way. Displaying the report in another format(PDF,EXCEL,etc) should send the full query and present the message before the report is run. But whenever a report is run in HTML format, the query results are always retrieved per page and hence it is not possible to find out in advance if the report is going to exceed the "maximum rows retrieved" property and hence no way to display that error message on the first page of the report.
