How to create a Rational DOORS attribute of type Text in Rational Rhapsody Gateway export

Question & Answer

Question

How can I export an IBM Rational Rhapsody Tag of type String from Gateway to DOORS and create a DOORS Attribute of type Text instead of type String?

Cause

You want to use a DOORS attribute of type Text to handle multi-line capability.

Answer

  1. It is not possible to create a DOORS attribute of type Text by Gateway export.

The export from Gateway to DOORS uses precisely the following DOORS types:
    • Boolean when Gateway attribute is exported as no value field
    • String when Gateway attribute is exported as value field
    • Enumeration with same name and enumerated values as defined in Gateway attribute type
  2. Multi-line string Tags from Rhapsody are exported as DOORS attribute of type String. There is no data lost. But you cannot add new lines in DOORS because the type is String and not Text.
  3. You can create the needed attributes in DOORS of type Text manually before running the export. Then, the String Tag is exported to that Text attribute and you can use the multi-line capabilities.
