Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All Distributed Data Facility (DDF) Users. * * DB2 11 for z/OS users of global variables * * only. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A DB2 11 for z/OS server may send an * * invalid, global variable related, data * * stream to a remote server. * * Remote server symptoms may vary * * depending on its platform. One known * * symptom relative to a remote DB2 11 * * for z/OS server platform is abend * * 04E-00D35011 LOC=DSNXGRDS.DSNLZOGV:0050 * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** A remote requester (Site1) application connects to a DB2 11 for z/OS server (Site2) and executes SQL that refers to another remote DB2 11 for z/OS (Site3) server. The DB2 hopping server (Site2), when generating command data for global variables, incorrectly determined that the DB2 downstream server (Site3) requires the global variable command data stream to be encrypted. As a result, encrypted global variable command data is incorrectly generated and sent to the DB2 downstream server (Site3). When the encrypted global variable data is decrypted by the DB2 downstream server (Site3), the decrypted form of the global variable command data yielded an invalid data stream which leads to the DB2 down stream server (Site3) abend. The reason for the invalid data stream (after decryption) can't be determined. However, the root cause is that the DB2 hopping server (Site2) incorrectly determined that the global variable data must be encrypted. Note: In the reported scenario, the downstream server (Site3) does not require the global command data to be encrypted. Therefore, this APAR provides a solution on the DB2 hopping server (Site2) to correctly determine whether or not the DB2 downstream server (Site3) requires global variable command data to be encrypted.
Problem conclusion
The DB2 hopping server (Site2) is corrected to generate the global variable command data stream based on the fields which contain accurate DB2 downstream server information.
