How do you deploy data modules from one Cognos Analytics environment to another? e.g., how to migrate data modules from a staging, development, pre-pod or QA environment to production?
Answer
1) Create a deployment export in environment 1.
-Include the folder(s) containing the data modules you want to migrate to environment 2.
-If your data module(s) are dependent on uploaded files or data sets, ensure to include folders containing these objects and select the "Include report output versions" option in the deployment settings.
-You are not required to include database connections in the deployment.
2) Import the deployment into environment 2.
-Ensure you select 'include upload data' option when performing the import
-If you plan to use a different database server in environment 2. (Note: the database and schema must be the same for both environments) -
- ensure a data source connection of the same name as in environment 1 exists in environment 2 (they can point to different databases).
- Refresh the schema(s) used by your data module(s)
- Once the refresh is complete, you should be able to use your data modules, reports and dashboards
