Last Patch Installed column may seem inaccurate on Guardium CM

Question & Answer

Question

IBM Security Guardium Central Managers have a Central Management view with a column called "last patch installed". What does this column really indicate?

Answer

The column is designed to give administrators a high-level view of which managed units are at which major code levels. Consider the case where some units have p34 and some are on GPU 100 but all units had p4015 installed most recently.

Because of this, sniffer patches and most security patches are not listed in the Last Patch Installed column, only GPUs, cumulative fixpacks (CFPs) and other major code releases count for the purpose of this column.

This can be confusing if the administrator tries to use this column to verify that a sniffer patch was installed. In that case it's best to verify on the managed unit directly.
