IBM Support

Moving from IBM Rational Rhapsody to another application and back to Rhapsody causes performance problems.

Question & Answer

Question

Why does Rhapsody take so long to respond when returning from another application?

Cause

With Rhapsody integrated with ClearCase using dynamic view there will be performance problems when switching between Rhapsody and other applications. For example, Rhapsody to Notepad and than back to Rhapsody. Each time the user returns to Rhapsody it will take some time before the model can be worked on. The performance issue is affected by the size of the model.
When Rhapsody is NOT connected to ClearCase the response time is negligible.

Answer

The properties Autosynchronise and UseUnitTimeStamps are probably enabled. These properties cause Rhapsody to check whether any of the loaded project files have been modified when it regains the focus and it can be that this operation takes longer when retrieving the last modified date from the ClearCase server than when it is performing the same task locally. These properties are often enabled when there is no direct CM integration, or if using Batch Mode integration. Strictly speaking it isn't necessary to use those properties if using SCC integration.
